Portrait of Sir James Paul McCartney - Refernce Photo from the White Album - 10x15 Faber Castels Color Pencils on Bristol Board - not sure how many hours this has taken me to complete but have to say am a bit proud of how he came out hope you all like it.
Excellent work! Xx
It came out nicely!
A great piece of art. You've done very well. Especially the hair and his eyes.
I first saw this in someone else's favorites, and looking at the thumbnail, I was sort of expectubg it to be digital art. I now see that it's colored pencil. Somehow, that makes me infinitely more impressed (no offense to digital artists, of course). The shading is so brilliant. Just lovely!
Fantastic portrait ,, so skillful !
It's a great portrait!
You should definatly be proud of this, stunning pencil work
This is amazing! The shadows on the face and the colors are so life-like...

Thanks you very much
What pencils did you use?
What pencils did you use?
I used Faber Castel polychromos colour pencils...I use to strickly use prismacolours but I am finding that the Faber's to blend better the only thing I am not crazy about is that the colours are not as vibrant as the Prisma pencils they are much more earthy in tone but it is good for portraits to get much more natural skin tone I am now using them on my next piece which is a dalmation hopefully I will get similar results as the paul McCartney piece
Excellent work,so refreshing to see REAL art instead of computer manipulated images.
Thanks I sort of feel the same as you when it comes to the Computer images I think there is not enough work done in traditional medium anymore and sometimes it does make me wonder where the art world is going these days and what they are teaching the up and coming artist in Art Schools...I do think there is a place for computer drawing and illustrations as I do have it in my background as a graphic designer but i do feel that there is nothing like having a pencil or paint brush in your hand and seeing your paper or canvas come to life I feel it is more personal that way.
very very good,,is it pencil colours and pencil, graphite? it does have a very tight paint feel to it. well done
Hi John, thanks for the comments...this portrait was done in Colour Pencil only. I had alot of fun with this one as i was trying out my new set of color pencils from Faber Castels, before I wouldn't use anything outside of my prismacolors, but now I have to say I think I may have found something that I like alot more it give a different feel to the drawing as the pencil is not as waxy as the prismacolors it appears softer and much more subtle. I can highly recomment them for this kind of work .
Omg! I just want to draw like you! You are great!
maybe im amazed..but who wouldn't be with this stunning portrait..great work!!!
great portrait. very nice skin tones. this has an oil painting type feel to it.
Sorry for the late response but thank you I enjoyed working with the Faber Castel Pencils I believe they are more of an oil base pencil verse the prismacolors that are waxy...I enjoy working with both of them but i am favoring the Fabers for more of my realistic work they just seem to give a nice soft feel to the drawing
excellent portrait! you should work with Marge Simpson and get the Ringo!
